Laheq Island in Saudi Arabia to become a lifestyle destination
Laheq Island, the first residential-led private island development in Saudi Arabia, will be the country’s first sustainable resort. Positioned within the Red Sea’s pristine archipelago, Laheq Island marks a bold step in the Kingdom’s transformation into a global luxury tourism and lifestyle destination.
Scheduled to open in 2028, the 400-hectare island will feature a striking 800-meter diameter ring-shaped structure, designed by the renowned Foster + Partners, that encircles white sand beaches and a central lagoon. This landmark project is the first beyond Phase One of The Red Sea destination and aims to position Saudi Arabia as a new contender in the luxury island space, competing with destinations like the Maldives and the Caribbean.
Luxury living meets sustainable design
Laheq Island is designed to offer a seamless blend of private residential living and luxury hospitality. Key features of the development include:
· Two high-end resort hotels – one focused on wellness, the other on adventurous lifestyle offerings
· Private residences offering exclusive ownership opportunities
· A 115-berth marina
· An 18-hole championship golf course
· A traditional souq-style marketplace with curated products and daily essentials
· A central “Ring” structure housing apartments, hotels, and retail spaces surrounding the island’s lagoon

The development will also offer a variety of leisure amenities including sailing and watersports schools, a racket club, fitness center, sports field, lush parks, and multiple beach clubs. Dining options will range from barefoot beachfront eateries to upscale restaurants showcasing local and international cuisine made from fresh, regional ingredients.
A "Forever Garden" in harmony with nature
Foster + Partners’ design for Laheq Island is based on the “Forever Garden” concept, which prioritizes immersive natural beauty and sustainability. The resort will be filled with lush greenery, garden courtyards, pergolas, and shaded canopies made from natural timber. The architecture draws inspiration from the island’s surrounding sea, sand, and sky.
“Our vision is grounded in a deep appreciation for Laheq Island’s outstanding natural beauty,” says Norman Foster, founder and executive chairman of Foster + Partners. “Residents and visitors will be welcomed into a serene garden that engages the senses and offers sweeping views of the Red Sea.”
Laheq Island lies within an archipelago of 92 untouched islands, nestled beside the world’s fourth-largest barrier reef, which supports over 2,000 marine species, many of which are unique to the region.
A new chapter in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030
This development marks Red Sea Global’s expansion into residential real estate, signaling its broader role beyond tourism as a vertically integrated real estate developer and operator. Laheq Island directly supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals to diversify the economy, promote sustainable development, and position the Kingdom as a premier destination to live, work, and travel.
“Whether for guests or homeowners, Laheq will deliver an immersive, luxury lifestyle experience anchored in community and nature,” said John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global.

The broader Red Sea destination has already welcomed its first guests in 2023, with five hotels and Red Sea International Airport currently in operation, offering both domestic and international flights. Red Sea Global plans to complete all 16 hotels in Phase One by 2030. Upon full completion, the destination will feature:
