Red Sea Global introduces Team AMAALA to take part in Ocean Race Europe 2025
Red Sea Global has
officially launched Team AMAALA,
a professional sailing team set to compete in the prestigious Ocean Race Europe 2025—a multi-stage
event stretching from the Baltic to the Adriatic Sea. This new venture reflects
Red Sea Global’s growing commitment to ocean stewardship and sustainable marine
tourism.
A Bold Step Toward Ocean Conservation
Team AMAALA’s debut in the Ocean Race Europe marks a significant milestone for
Red Sea Global, positioning the company at the forefront of international
sailing and marine sustainability efforts. With this initiative, Red Sea Global
aims to highlight the critical role of ocean science in protecting marine
ecosystems and to amplify its message of responsible tourism on a global stage.
Experienced Leadership at the Helm
The team will be led by renowned Swiss sailor Alan Roura, a veteran of
high-performance ocean racing in the IMOCA 60 class. Known for his solo sailing
achievements and deep understanding of the sea, Roura brings both experience
and vision to the newly formed team. His leadership is expected to drive both
competitive results and mission-driven visibility for AMAALA.

Vision for Sustainable Travel
John Pagano, CEO of Red Sea Global, emphasized the broader vision behind
Team AMAALA’s participation:
“We’re creating destinations where science and nature work hand in hand to
improve the well-being of people and the planet. This race offers a global
platform to promote conscious tourism and sustainability. If there was ever a
moment to unite in protecting our oceans, that moment is now.”
The team’s involvement in the 2025 race is just the beginning. Future events
include a 2026 transatlantic race from New York to
Barcelona, and by 2027,
the round-the-world edition
of The Ocean Race will conclude at AMAALA on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea
coast—marking the first time the prestigious race will end in this region.
AMAALA’s selection as the final-stage destination for the 15th edition of
The Ocean Race underscores the Red Sea’s rising profile in international
sailing and environmental diplomacy.
Advancing Ocean Science
As part of The Ocean Race’s science program, Team AMAALA will contribute to
collecting critical oceanographic data during both the 2025 European leg and
the 2027 global race. Data will include:
·
Water temperature and
salinity
·
Oxygen and carbon dioxide
concentrations
·
Microplastic levels
·
Environmental DNA (eDNA)

These datasets support global scientific research aimed at monitoring and
understanding changes in marine environments. During the 2023 race alone, more
than 4 million data points
were collected, benefiting ocean researchers worldwide.
Corallium: The Science Hub of AMAALA
Much of the collected data will feed into Corallium, AMAALA’s upcoming marine life and
conservation center, set to open later this year. Envisioned as a global center
for ocean education, Corallium will serve as a platform for community outreach,
research, and public engagement in marine protection.
A Growing Partnership for the Planet
Red Sea Global’s formal partnership with The Ocean Race, initiated in 2023,
is rooted in shared values around ocean health, education, and sustainability.
Through this collaboration, Red Sea Global not only enhances its international
presence but also demonstrates how destination development can be both
environmentally responsible and globally influential.
Team AMAALA’s journey will serve as a symbol of unity, innovation, and
environmental responsibility—sailing not just for sport, but for science, the
planet, and the future.
