Biotechnology becoming a strong pillar of Saudi Arabia's sustainable future

Biotechnology is no longer a scientific luxury—it’s a strategic pillar driving Saudi Arabia’s journey toward health sovereignty, pharmaceutical security, and a sustainable, knowledge-based economy.

At the heart of this transformation is precision medicine, which marks a significant advancement in treating rare genetic diseases. By shifting the focus from symptoms to the genetic roots of illnesses, biotechnology is revolutionizing diagnostics and care.

A National Priority

Recognizing its importance, the Kingdom has placed biotechnology among its top strategic priorities. On January 25, 2024, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched the National Biotechnology Strategy, a long-term roadmap to position Saudi Arabia as a global biotechnology hub by 2040.

This vision was on full display during Saudi Arabia’s prominent participation in the BIO International Convention 2025, held in Boston—the world's leading biotech event. Led by the Ministry of Health, the Saudi pavilion brought together 25 public and private entities, showcasing a unified national ecosystem and highlighting the Kingdom’s ambition to lead in life sciences innovation.
