Saudi Arabia’s futuristic Shebara Resort features steel villas above Red Sea

Saudi Arabia has unveiled yet another striking addition to its luxury tourism landscape with the completion of Shebara Resort, a remote getaway featuring futuristic, pod-like steel villas rising dramatically above the Red Sea.

Designed by Killa Design, the architectural firm behind Dubai’s Museum of the Future, with interiors by Studio Paolo Ferrari, the resort is located in a secluded area off the coast of Tabuk and is accessible only by seaplane.

The project is part of the ambitious Red Sea Global development, one of Saudi Arabia’s high-profile giga-projects alongside Neom and Qiddiya. Shebara Resort joins earlier developments such as Desert Rock and Laheq in redefining sustainable luxury in the region.

The resort consists of 73 villas:

·         38 sea-based villas, featuring shimmering stainless steel pods that cantilever over the water, creating the illusion of floating.

·         35 land-based villas, similar in design but larger, nestled onshore among natural surroundings.

The sea villas—described by the resort as a "majestic string of pearls"—accommodate up to two adults, one child, and an infant. The land villas offer up to four bedrooms, housing as many as eight adults and four children.

Each overwater villa is reached via a jetty and positioned more than 50 meters (164 feet) from coral reefs, minimizing environmental impact. "The orbs disappear into the horizon like a mirage," reads a statement from the resort. "Their mirrored exteriors reflect the sea, sand, and sky—blending seamlessly with the surroundings from sunrise to sunset."

In line with its off-grid location, Shebara Resort is powered entirely by an on-site solar farm and features a desalination plant to supply fresh water. Guests are encouraged to engage with the resort’s sustainability features through biking and walking paths that wind through the solar array, offering a behind-the-scenes view of its operations.

A full suite of amenities awaits visitors, including fine dining, a spa and wellness center, a gym, and water-based activities like snorkeling and windsurfing. Rates begin at SAR 9,000 (US$2,400) per night.

With its cutting-edge design, minimal environmental footprint, and immersive guest experience, Shebara Resort sets a bold new standard in sustainable, high-end tourism along Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast.
