Venice Biennale highlights the future of Saudi art and architecture

Diriyah Art Futures (DAF), the Middle East and North Africa’s leading center for New Media and Digital Arts, is set to host a landmark panel discussion in Venice titled "A New Era for Art in Saudi Arabia: Building Future Institutions and Pioneering Architectures." The event will take place at the prestigious Querini Stampalia Foundation, coinciding with the opening of the Venice Biennale of Architecture 2025.

The panel will explore the intersection of contemporary architecture, digital innovation, and Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage in shaping the nation’s future art institutions. Featured speakers include Mona Khazindar of the Saudi Ministry of Culture, DAF Director Dr. Haytham Nawar, and architects Andrea and Amadeo Schiattarella of Schiattarella Associati. The conversation will be moderated by acclaimed architect and art critic James Steele.

A Platform for Global Dialogue

The discussion forms part of "Building of the Future," a global initiative showcasing visionary architectural projects that are redefining modern design. The event seeks to create a dialogue among architects, cultural leaders, artists, and media professionals about Saudi Arabia’s expanding presence in the international arts and architecture landscape.

Immersive Exhibition at Querini Stampalia

Alongside the panel, Schiattarella Associati will curate an exhibition at the Querini Stampalia Foundation featuring architectural models, sketches, video installations, drawings, photographs, and cultural artifacts. The exhibition offers an immersive experience into the conceptual and physical development of the DAF project.

DAF’s architecture, designed by Schiattarella Associati, rises organically from Diriyah’s rocky terrain, blending contemporary form with traditional Saudi elements. The design reflects a dual vision: embracing the future of digital arts while preserving and honoring the Kingdom’s cultural identity.

A Visionary Project Under Vision 2030

DAF is a flagship initiative under the Saudi Museums Commission and a key component of Riyadh’s transformation into a global hub for creativity and cultural exchange. As part of the broader Vision 2030 agenda, the project exemplifies Saudi Arabia’s commitment to fostering innovation while maintaining deep cultural roots.

The upcoming panel will further highlight how DAF serves as a blueprint for integrating historical context with cutting-edge design, offering a dynamic, future-ready cultural landmark that reflects both national identity and global ambition.
