Saudi Arabia: Neom and Samsung team up to revolutionize construction with robotics

The partnership between NEOM and Samsung C&T is set to transform the construction industry

Saudi Arabia: Neom and Samsung commit over $350m to automate steel structure assembly

Saudi Arabia is making significant strides in construction innovation with a new partnership between NEOM and Samsung C&T, committing over $350 million to automate steel structure assembly. The collaboration aims to reduce construction costs by 40% and cut manual labor time by up to 80%, with a focus on using advanced robotics for faster and more efficient housing production.

NEOM and Samsung: Pioneering Automated Construction

The partnership between NEOM and Samsung C&T is set to transform the construction industry through automation and robotics. By using robotic systems for the manufacturing and assembly of pre-assembled steel structures, the project will streamline construction processes, greatly reducing time and costs.

Majid Mufti, CEO of the NEOM Investment Fund, emphasized that automation will not only enhance efficiency but also improve safety and sustainability. Reducing manual labor minimizes occupational risks while optimizing material usage, in line with NEOM's vision to become a leader in advanced, eco-friendly construction.

Specialized robots will handle tasks like welding and tying structural reinforcements, enabling faster, more accurate assembly. This system could reduce costs by up to 40% compared to traditional methods, and has the potential to change the global construction landscape.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

Beyond technical advancements, the project promises significant economic benefits for Saudi Arabia, including the creation of over 2,000 specialized jobs. The establishment of factories within NEOM dedicated to steel structure production will support megaprojects like THE LINE and other major infrastructure initiatives in the region.

As global demand for steel rebar continues to rise, NEOM and Samsung C&T aim to lead the way in automating this process, setting the stage for a global shift in construction practices.

Hojin Jung, president of Samsung C&T, noted that the collaboration with NEOM is a critical step toward modernizing the construction industry. The integration of robotics and automation will enable faster project delivery with superior quality, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in construction.

NEOM: At the Forefront of Building the Future

This initiative is a cornerstone of NEOM's broader vision to become a global hub for cutting-edge technology and sustainable construction. The city, spanning 26,500 square kilometers, aims to set the standard for innovation and environmental responsibility in urban development.

The NEOM Investment Fund (NIF), the project’s strategic investment arm, is driving this collaboration to accelerate the development of disruptive technologies and create new business opportunities within Saudi Arabia.

Bandar Ashrour, head of NEOM's Design and Construction Sector, emphasized that this move would strengthen the country's manufacturing capabilities and solidify its leadership in the advanced construction industry. It also supports Saudi Arabia’s broader goals of diversifying its economy and becoming a key player in the technology and manufacturing sectors.
