Alula appoints tourism veteran Gwénaëlle Delos as Chief
of Tourism
AlUla, a $15 billion project in
Saudi Arabia’s northwest province, has appointed Gwénaëlle Delos as its new
Chief of Tourism and Innovation. The ambitious project, set to transform AlUla
into the world’s largest living museum by 2035, is being developed in three
phases by the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) in collaboration with Afalula,
the French government agency overseeing the initiative.
Delos brings over 20 years of
experience in the development and promotion of tourist destinations. Before
joining Afalula, she served as the Development Director for France at Hopscotch
Tourism in Paris and led the Atout France office for the UK and Ireland in
London.
At Afalula, Delos will be
responsible for establishing AlUla as a global tourism hub, helping position
the northwest province as a flagship destination. Her appointment comes just
ahead of the departure of Mathias Curnier, who currently heads tourism,
destination, and corporate communications at the agency.

Jean-Yves Le Drian, chairman of
Afalula, expressed that Delos’s appointment aligns perfectly with the agency's
strategic goals. Earlier this year, Afalula also named Catherine Pégard as its
Chief of Cultural Development. Pégard, the former president of the Palace of
Versailles, will oversee corporate communications following Curnier’s
departure.
AlUla: The World’s Largest Living
Museum
Located near Saudi Arabia’s first
UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra, which opened to the public in 2020, the
AlUla project is set to redefine cultural and heritage tourism. Once completed,
AlUla will feature five unique districts, five heritage sites, 15 cultural
venues and museums, 10 million square meters of green space, and 5,000 hotel
rooms.
