Diriyah Company unveils sustainability initiatives
at COP16
Diriyah Company is actively participating in the 16th session of the
Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat
Desertification (UNCCD). Held for the first time in Riyadh from December 2 to
13, 2024, under the theme “Our Land, Our Future,” the event provides a
platform for nations and organizations to address pressing global challenges
such as desertification and drought.
Through its dedicated pavilion in the Green Zone, Diriyah Company is
presenting its groundbreaking sustainability projects and strategies. These
initiatives aim to position Diriyah as a global leader in eco-friendly urban
development, setting new benchmarks for quality of life and climate adaptation.

Pioneering Sustainable Development in
Diriyah
Diriyah Company’s vision for sustainability includes innovative projects
that emphasize the preservation of natural resources and environmental
stewardship. Highlights of these efforts include:
- Public Green Spaces: Over 8 public parks and
more than 20 kilometers of horse-riding, cycling, and walking tracks.
- Ecological Restoration: Planting over 6.5
million indigenous trees, plants, and shrubs to enhance biodiversity.
- Water and Energy Efficiency: Establishing a
comprehensive sewage treatment plant, two mobile water treatment units,
and over 4,000 electric vehicle charging stations.
- Sustainability Certifications: Securing more
than 10 certifications across various sustainability pillars, including
the Platinum Level LEED for Cities Certification from the U.S. Green
Building Council (USGBC)—the first of its kind in the Middle East.
These initiatives aim to achieve up to 30% energy savings and 50%
water savings in some areas.
