Saudi Green Initiative to increase green cover in the kingdom
In alignment with Saudi Arabia’s
environmental goals, the Saudi Green Initiative has undertaken an extensive
greening project at the King Abdulaziz Protected Pasture in Madinah’s
Al-Hanakiyah governorate.
Representatives from government
bodies, environmental associations, and local communities collaborated to plant
native trees and disperse seeds, marking a key advancement in the Kingdom's
afforestation efforts.

This project supports the Saudi
Green Initiative’s commitment to restoring vegetation cover, combating
desertification, and reducing soil erosion across Saudi Arabia. Launched by
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2021, the Saudi Green Initiative forms part
of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 framework, which aims to protect 30% of Saudi
Arabia's land and marine environments, increase biodiversity, and drive
sustainable development.
The National Centre for Vegetation
Cover Development and Combating Desertification led the greening efforts in
coordination with officials from the Madinah region.

The Saudi Green Initiative aspires
to create a healthier environment by reducing pollution, rehabilitating desert
lands, and expanding vegetation cover, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s
environmental and economic transformation goals. Vision 2030’s comprehensive
approach not only focuses on environmental sustainability but also seeks to
empower citizens, attract investment, and diversify the economy, positioning
Saudi Arabia as a global leader in sustainability.
