US firm unveils plans for "Secret Garden" spa resort design

Neom, the Saudi mega project, has unveiled plans for the Elanan spa and hotel, nestled within a natural oasis on the Gulf of Aqaba, as its latest venture.

Crafted by the American firm Mark Foster Gage Architects, the Elanan resort will feature 80 rooms and suites alongside comprehensive well-being amenities.

Set amidst a natural oasis nourished by pristine springs, the resort aims to evoke the ambiance of a secluded sanctuary, akin to a "secret garden."

"Elanan is a retreat nestled in the Gulf of Aqaba, enveloped by stunning natural surroundings, reminiscent of a hidden gem," explained Mark Foster Gage Architects' founder, Mark Foster Gage.

"You'll notice this cube emerging amidst the foliage. It's this extraordinary sight that piques your curiosity. And once you step through its threshold, you're transported toanother realm," he elaborated.

"Here, architecture intertwines with nature, giving rise to an allure surpassing the beauty of either element alone."

The Elanan spa resort will comprise hotel blocks, villas, and gilded observation towers arranged around a series of inviting pools. Dominating the central area will be two expansive swimming pools linked by a cascading waterfall.

The design concept revolves around creating a journey of discovery for guests, with various spaces awaiting exploration.

"As you approach Elanan, a gleaming golden tower emerges subtly from behind the dunes," described architect Bashayer Bamohsen of Mark Foster Gage Architects. "As you draw nearer, the golden facade gradually unveils itself, enticing visitors on a captivating journey of exploration."

Elanan represents Neom's latest foray into hospitality development along the Gulf of Aqaba coastline in northeastern Saudi Arabia. It joins other notable projects such as Xaynor, envisioned as the "ultimate members' club" by Mexican studio Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos, and an "exclusive sanctuary resort" designed by Dutch firm OMA.

Additional ventures planned for the coast include the striking "upside-down skyscraper" Aquellum, the luxurious Leyja hotel, the hexagonal-pillar Siranna hotel, jagged skyscrapers Epicon, the Utamo by Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, and the coastal yachting town Norlana.
