Neom’s commitment to sustainable agriculture aligns with
Saudi Vision 2030
Neom, Saudi Arabia's groundbreaking mega-city, has captured
global attention not just for its bold architectural vision but also for its
commitment to sustainable agriculture. Spearheaded by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed
bin Salman, Neom envisions a sprawling, 170-kilometer single-structure
metropolis along the picturesque coastline, entirely powered by renewable
energy.
Beyond its engineering marvels, Neom is set to embark on
various food security initiatives, encompassing desert agriculture and
promoting "farm-to-fork" sustainability. Renowned Italian chefs
Norbert Niederkofler and Paolo Ferretti, founders of the sustainable food
venture Neom Care, are integral to these efforts. Neom Care, launched at Niederkofler's
three-Michelin-starred restaurant in Italy, is collaborating with Topian, a
specialist sustainable agriculture company, to position Neom as a hub for
21st-century food culture, with a strong emphasis on environmental well-being.

Juan Carlos Motamayor, CEO of Topian, highlights the urgency
of addressing climate change in the context of food production, emphasizing the
unsustainability of relying on imports for 70-80% of the Kingdom's food
consumption. Topian aims to pioneer desert agriculture technology, foreseeing
its global relevance amidst climate change challenges.
Topian's focus extends to localization of food production,
promoting alternatives to water-intensive products like certain crops. This
includes a target to localize 600,000 tonnes of seafood production,
contributing significantly to Neom's sustainable goals. The Neom initiative
also seeks to encourage healthier food choices, both within the Neom community
and across the Kingdom.

Arabia’s Neom seeks international partnerships to increase agri production
Neom's commitment to sustainable food systems aligns with
Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to diversify the economy and ensure food security
while mitigating climate change impacts. The ambitious goal of achieving
net-zero emissions by 2060 underscores Neom's dedication to environmental
stewardship.
In addition to its agricultural initiatives, Neom Care, the
gastronomy venture, focuses on developing Saudi youth through training and
educational projects, promoting local sustainable gastronomy. Neom is
collaborating with academic institutions like King Abdullah University of
Science and Technology and Tabuk University to nurture talent for the culinary
industry, ensuring that the infrastructure complements the development of
skilled professionals with ambitious goals.
Currently, Neom is actively involved in constructing
advanced greenhouses in strategic locations, underscoring its commitment to
innovative and sustainable agricultural practices.
