a hub of liveability, business and conservation in region: Nadhmi Al Nasr
The CEO of
Neom envisions a transformation of liveability, business, and conservation in
the region. Neom, known for its ambitious project, The Line, set to run on
renewable energy, has broader ambitions, as its chief executive shared with The
National.
Neom is
embracing sports, aligning with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, in a
sustainable manner, aiming to become synonymous with various international
events. The endeavor includes making Neom the annual hub for beach sports, as
it recently hosted the Neom Beach Games 2023. This event featured the Beach
Soccer Cup, which concluded over the weekend, along with other activities like
triathlon, basketball, and the Titan Desert cycling challenge.

Nadhmi Al
Nasr, the CEO of Neom, emphasized their goal to "redefine liveability,
conservation, and innovation across industries."
Since July
2018, Mr. Al Nasr has been at the forefront of Neom's bold vision and program.
His journey began at Saudi Aramco in 1978, and he later assumed the role of
vice president of the Kaust Development Programme. In 2009, he was appointed by
Royal Decree to the advisory board of the Supreme Economic Council, and in
2017, he became the interim president of the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies
and Research Centre.
According
to Mr. Al Nasr, Neom's various sectors will play a pivotal role in the success
of the project and in fulfilling their commitment to economic progress in
alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.
During the
Beach Games, Jan Paterson, the managing director of Neom Sport, described the
event as a significant milestone in the company's history and expressed plans
to involve Saudi women in beach soccer games in the future.

to become hub for education, research, and innovation ecosystem talent
Joan Cusco,
president of Beach Soccer Worldwide, commended Neom, hailing the Beach Soccer
Cup as "the best event of the season."
The final
day of the men's Neom Beach Soccer Cup took place on Saturday evening, with
Brazil emerging as the champions in the final against Japan. This marked the
third edition of the Neom Beach Soccer Cup.
In the
women's matches, Spain secured the championship title by defeating Brazil in
the final, and Mr. Cusco expressed hope for increased female participation in
the next season.
Majid, a
member of the Saudi beach soccer team, conveyed his pride in representing the
national team, especially in Neom, where the environment is tailored to support
athletes and offer them the best opportunities. Local support was strong, with
many residents from Tabuk attending the Neom Beach Soccer Cup to watch
international matches. Neom arranged transportation for locals and their
children, providing them with access to games and activities in the fan zone.

The fan
zone, located at the heart of the Beach Games Hub, featured live entertainment
and sports activities for visitors. It included free games such as Beach Volleyball,
a Basketball Tree, Slack Line, Football Pool, Tic Tac Toe Basketball, Foosball
Table, Balance Board, and Teqball. Teenagers and adults also enjoyed a Zipline
and a giant slide.
Omar
Mohasin, a Saudi national from Tabuk, expressed his enthusiasm for the event
and voiced his hope that Saudi Arabia could become the champions in the next
year. He emphasized the importance of such events for the community and sports
in Saudi Arabia, highlighting the pride of hosting the Beach Soccer World Cup.
The Neom Beach
Games comprise a series of major sports events held over five weeks, drawing
over 800 international athletes from approximately 25 countries, as well as
national federations and international rights holders, to Neom.
