Saudi Arabia's Red Sea Project commemorates six years of achievements

The Red Sea Project, an opulent tourism development initiative in Saudi Arabia, commemorates six years of remarkable construction progress. Originally introduced as an integral element of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the project has unveiled a new video showcasing the latest updates to its renowned destinations, encompassing three luxurious hotels and an international airport. Among these remarkable hotels stands Shura Island, also known as the Coral Bloom concept, a creation of Foster and Partners.

Mohammed Khayat, Associate Project Director at Red Sea Global, states, "The Shura Island is one of the most iconic projects around the world." Murray Vetch, Executive Projects Director at Red Sea Global, adds, "We are live on 15 of the 17 assets, and we're due to complete in quarter four of 2024."

Design Concept of Shura Island by Foster and Partners

The design concept for Shura Island, known as Coral Bloom, has been skillfully crafted by Foster and Partners, seamlessly harmonizing with its pristine natural surroundings. Drawing inspiration from the local environment, the Shura hotels offer distinct villas and tailor-made experiences catering to a diverse array of guests. The architectural layout has been strategically devised to act as a natural defense against erosion, ensuring the island's preservation. Additionally, meticulous landscaping endeavors have led to the creation of new habitats, enhancing the island's ecological equilibrium.

Foster and Partners' design proposal envisions multiple hotels seamlessly integrated into the landscape, forming a symbiotic relationship with the expansive dunes. This design also encompasses the creation of new beaches on the island, which resembles a dolphin, and the establishment of a new lagoon.

Emphasis on Sustainability

According to the recently unveiled video by Red Sea, the long-anticipated Saudi Arabia project is on the cusp of realization, with the first developments set to greet guests in the final months of 2023. Murray Vetch asserts, "We've constantly got stuff on the go, and new context is being awarded every week. It's just a really exciting development to be part of."

The commitment to sustainability is a central focus of the project. Mohammed Khayat highlights, "We've got a big sustainability drive across the development that's led us to look at different construction techniques. We are incorporating off-site manufacturing wherever we can." Measures such as using recast panels to reduce labor requirements and control project quality underscore the project's commitment to minimizing waste and enhancing environmental responsibility. Vetch further emphasizes that the Red Sea teams are pioneers in driving this sustainability approach, considering it a way of life and an ongoing educational process for the entire team.
