SAMI Inaugurates new production line for software defined radio systems  

In partnership with the Ministry of Defense and with the backing of the General Authority of Military Industry (GAMI), SAMI, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Saudi Arabia's leading defense industries champion, has announced the establishment of a new production line dedicated to software-defined multi-band radio systems (SDRs). This collaboration involves L3Harris Technologies and the SAMIL3Harris Joint Venture and is based at SAMI-AEC, a longstanding national leader in electronic manufacturing capabilities located in Riyadh. This production line will locally manufacture cutting-edge radio systems.

Eng. Walid A. Abukhaled, CEO of SAMI, expressed his pride in this partnership, underscoring its role in strengthening ties with global defense industry pioneer L3Harris. He also emphasized the company's dedication to advancing local capacity in this crucial domain, saying, "This initiative plays a pivotal role in our commitment to the Saudi Vision 2030's objective of localizing 50% of the Kingdom's defense spending. It will contribute to increasing local content and further enhancing our partnership with the Royal Saudi Land Forces. SAMI remains steadfast in delivering state-of-the-art technology while nurturing local talent and capabilities."

Eng. Ziad Al-Musallam, CEO of SAMI-AEC, reiterated the company's unwavering commitment to enhancing the Saudi defense manufacturing landscape through strategic alliances and the expansion of collaborations. This approach aligns seamlessly with the vision of developing indigenous technologies tailored to the defense sector. He highlighted the company's achievement in producing a critical component of Software-defined Radio (SDR) systems, underscoring its essential role in augmenting the capabilities of the Saudi Royal Land Forces.

Echoing these sentiments, Sam Mehta, President of L3Harris Communications Systems, expressed strong support and pride for this unique collaboration, stating, "Our partnership with SAMI, including the establishment of a strategically important Joint Venture and collaboration with SAMI-AEC for launching a software-defined radio (SDR) production line, further solidifies a longstanding partnership spanning over 40 years. L3Harris remains committed to collaborating with SAMI, championing their mission to reinforce the Kingdom's military-industrial domain."

SAMI and L3Harris embarked on a collaborative journey centered around Electro-optical and Infrared (EO/IR) technologies, as well as special mission systems within Saudi Arabia. Building on their strong relationship, the two entities have now launched this latest venture, cementing their mutual commitment to localizing the world's best technology through ongoing cooperation.
