Saudi Arabia and Japan
to strengthen cooperation under Vision 2030
Saudi Crown Prince
Mohammed bin Salman and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida convened in
Jeddah on Sunday to explore opportunities for collaboration and fortify the
Saudi-Japan Vision 2030. The meeting commenced with an official reception
ceremony hosted by MBS, and the leaders engaged in substantive discussions in
the presence of their respective delegations, according to the Saudi Press
Agency (SPA).
The talks primarily
focused on bilateral relations between the two nations, particularly in the
realms of economy, trade, investment, and culture. They also explored ways to
strengthen cooperation within the framework of the Saudi Japan Vision 2030, a
visionary initiative initially signed in 2016 between Crown Prince Mohammed bin
Salman and the then-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, aimed at deepening ties between
Saudi Arabia and Japan across various sectors.
Additionally, Prince
Mohammed and Kishida addressed regional and international issues and discussed
the efforts exerted in these domains, signaling the commitment of both
countries to collaborative diplomacy.
As part of the visit,
Crown Prince Mohammed engaged with Japanese business leaders and entrepreneurs
in the presence of Prime Minister Kishida, opening avenues for business
partnerships and investment opportunities.
In a Saudi-Japan
roundtable attended by the Japanese PM and Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid
al-Falih, discussions centered around cooperation and coordination in diverse
sectors, with a specific focus on investment opportunities in clean energy,
mining, healthcare, and digital technologies.
The meeting yielded
fruitful outcomes as 26 cooperation and investment agreements with Japan were
signed, encompassing a wide range of sectors including health, entertainment,
culture, traditional energy, green energy, chemicals, manufacturing, machinery
and equipment, as well as financial, technical, agricultural, environmental,
and real estate development cooperation.
Moreover, the Japanese
Prime Minister held a meeting with Jasem Mohamed al-Budaiwi, Secretary General
of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), during which they agreed to hold a joint
GCC-Japanese ministerial meeting to bolster cooperation between Japan and the
Gulf countries. Notably, both sides also signed a joint statement resuming free
trade agreement negotiations between the GCC and Japan, highlighting the
significance of economic collaboration in the region.
The discussions and
agreements reached during the visit reflect the shared commitment of Saudi
Arabia and Japan to enhance their relations, foster economic growth, and
address regional and global challenges together. The Saudi-Japan Vision 2030
stands as a testament to the mutual determination of both nations to forge a
strong and prosperous future partnership.
