Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh climbs to 24th place globally in IMD Smart City Index
Eight Saudi cities have featured in the IMD Smart City Index
2026, underscoring the Kingdom’s accelerated urban growth and improved
living standards in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
Riyadh leads the way, climbing to 24th place
globally, up from 27th. Other notable rankings include Makkah at 50th, Jeddah
at 55th, Madīnah at 67th, and Al-Khobar at 64th.
AlUla saw the most dramatic leap, rising from
112th to 85th, reflecting the rapid development of the city’s infrastructure
and tourism sector.

For the first time, Hail and Hafar Al-Batin
Governorate were included in the index, ranking 33rd and 100th, respectively,
among 148 global cities.
The IMD Smart City Index evaluates cities on
their adoption of modern technologies, assessing factors such as digital
infrastructure, quality of urban services, and resident satisfaction,
highlighting the impact of innovation on daily life.
These gains demonstrate Saudi Arabia’s ongoing
dedication to building smart, sustainable cities that enhance quality of life
and strengthen global competitiveness, aligning with the nation’s designation
of 2026 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence.
