Study completed for the proposed Makkah International Airport

Saudi Arabia is moving forward with plans to develop a world-class international airport in Makkah, marking a significant step in the city’s long-term infrastructure strategy.

The Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites (RCMC) has completed the executive studies for the proposed Makkah International Airport, according to CEO Salehh Al-Rasheed. The project is designed to meet global standards while complementing existing aviation hubs across the region.

A New Approach to Sustainable Development

The airport has already received key strategic and economic approvals, paving the way for phased implementation. Unlike traditional government-funded projects, it will be developed through a public-private partnership model. This investment framework aims to enhance operational efficiency and ensure long-term financial sustainability, positioning the airport as a vital component of Saudi Arabia’s logistics network.

Integrated Transport Vision: Makkah Metro

In parallel, preliminary studies for the Makkah Metro have also been completed. The project is expected to move into the public tender stage once final regulatory steps are finalized.

Together, the airport and metro projects form a dual infrastructure strategy aimed at transforming Makkah’s transportation system. These developments are intended to support the growing number of pilgrims and residents while improving overall mobility and urban efficiency in the city.
