Saudi Founding Day celebrated with a series of cultural and entertainment events

 

Saudi cities host large-scale celebrations in honor of Founding Day anniversary   

On Sunday, Saudi Arabia launched a series of cultural and entertainment events to mark Founding Day, with cities across the Kingdom hosting large-scale celebrations in honor of the anniversary. Streets were adorned in green, and traditional attire was widely seen as Riyadh and other cities transformed into vibrant cultural and tourism hubs, attracting thousands of citizens, residents, and visitors.

This year's Founding Day coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, giving the festivities a unique evening character in line with the Ramadan atmosphere.

Celebrations highlighted national pride in Saudi Arabia’s historical roots, commemorating the establishment of the First Saudi State nearly three centuries ago.

Diriyah Takes Center Stage

Diriyah, recognized as the birthplace of the Saudi state, was a central feature of the celebrations. The UNESCO-listed At-Turaif district hosted a series of events organized by the Diriyah Gate Development Authority. Visitors could immerse themselves in interactive historical experiences, enjoy children's workshops centered around Diriyah's rich history, and participate in heritage storytelling sessions.

Academic discussions focused on the legacy of Diriyah and the historical expansion of the Saudi state. Additionally, Arabian horse shows and guided tours traced the roles of leadership and community during the state's founding period.

Riyadh's Celebrations

In the capital, Riyadh, Qasr Al-Hukm and Justice Square were at the heart of national events, overseen by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. One highlight was the "Mikhyal Hal Al-Ouja" exhibition, which used contemporary visual techniques to showcase key stages in the Kingdom's founding.

Riyadh Municipality also contributed to the celebrations, decorating streets and major roads with over 5,000 lighting installations across prominent locations, squares, and public spaces. In addition, activities in parks and open areas encouraged community engagement and bolstered national pride.

Nationwide Festivities

The celebrations extended beyond Riyadh. Across the Kingdom’s 13 regions, Saudis marked Founding Day for the fifth consecutive year, following a royal order from King Salman designating February 22 as a national holiday.

In Jeddah, a multi-day program featured road, square, and park decorations. On February 22, Prince Majed Park hosted a variety of activities, including falconry displays, equestrian shows, traditional crafts, children’s events, and henna art.

In the Tabuk region, 23 cultural, national, and heritage events were held across various cities and governorates, with participation from both government and private entities, ensuring a widespread celebration of the Kingdom's history and heritage.
