Saudi Founding Day cherishes lineage, heritage
Founding Day, observed on February 22, marks the inception
of the First Saudi State in 1727, a day cherished by Saudis nationwide as they
honor their lineage, heritage, and national identity. This sentiment was shared
by Zean Alshirian, Senior Officer for Cultural and Historical Validation at the
Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA).
Alshirian emphasized the significance of Founding Day,
established as a national holiday by royal decree in 2022, as a celebration of
Saudi identity. She described it as a day that deepens the connection between
the nation's people and their roots and heritage, paying homage to the foundational
steps that paved the way for the modern-day Kingdom.

The establishment of the First Saudi State by Imam Mohammed
bin Saud in 1727 symbolizes a pivotal moment in history. Imam Mohammed's
leadership brought security, stability, and prosperity to Diriyah, transforming
it into a vibrant center for culture, commerce, and education. Notably, Diriyah
housed the first treasury of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, situated in
At-Turaif, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Alshirian highlighted the progressive nature of Imam
Mohammed's achievements, which were groundbreaking for their time. The founding
of the First Saudi State marked a significant departure from the prevailing
city-state model, ushering in an era of nation-states in the Arabian Peninsula.
Imam Mohammed's visionary leadership not only bolstered local security and
unity but also fostered advancements in education and culture.

Founding Day serves as an opportunity for Saudis to reflect

Drawing a distinction between Founding Day and National Day,
celebrated on September 23 to commemorate the unification of the modern-day
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Alshirian emphasized that Founding Day pays tribute to
the establishment of the First Saudi State nearly 300 years ago. She emphasized
that while National Day signifies the culmination of the nation's journey,
Founding Day marks its inception, signifying the beginning of a transformative
voyage.
