Pakistan, Saudi Arabia to increase cooperation in cricket to promote the game
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to deepen
sporting cooperation—particularly in cricket—following a meeting in Riyadh
between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)
Chairman and Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Saudi
Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal.
During the discussions, both sides reaffirmed
their commitment to promoting cricket as a platform for youth engagement,
regional cooperation and long-term friendship. They also reviewed plans to
expand the sport’s footprint in the Kingdom, with a focus on developing
training programmes, improving cricket infrastructure and organising bilateral
tours and youth-level competitions.

Naqvi praised Prince Abdulaziz’s leadership and
the rapid transformation of Saudi Arabia’s sports sector under Vision 2030,
highlighting the Kingdom’s success in securing major international
events—including the AFC
Asian Cup 2027, Asian Winter Games
2029, Asian Games
2034, and the FIFA World Cup 2034.
He said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia would now
fast-track joint initiatives through enhanced coordination between relevant
institutions, noting that cricket has the potential to serve as “a bridge of
friendship” between the two nations.
Both countries, he added, see youth-focused
sports development as a key priority and aim to create new opportunities for
young people through collaborative programmes and expanded cricket activities
across Saudi Arabia.
