The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) is taking part in the Saudi International Rail Exhibition and Conference 2025 in Riyadh, highlighting its commitment to sustainable mobility, innovation, and human capability development in line with both AlUla Vision and Saudi Vision 2030.

At the event, RCU is unveiling a detailed model of the future AlUla Tram, a flagship sustainable transport initiative that merges cutting-edge innovation with heritage conservation. World’s longest battery-operated tram

The AlUla Tram is set to become the world’s longest catenary-free, battery-powered tram system, offering a distinctive “Journey Through Time.” It will traverse five key cultural and heritage landscapes: AlUla Old Town, Dadan, Jabal Ikmah, the Nabataean Oasis, and Hegra City. The project is designed to provide an immersive visitor experience while preserving the natural and cultural integrity of the region.

Developed in partnership with French mobility leader Alstom, the tram incorporates advanced, climate-resilient technologies that support Saudi Arabia’s broader environmental and carbon-reduction goals. The initiative underscores RCU’s vision of sustainable tourism powered by clean, future-ready transport solutions.

Building local expertise

Alongside its mobility initiatives, RCU is spotlighting its collaboration with the Saudi Railway Polytechnic (SRP) to nurture local talent in the transport sector. Through targeted training programs, young Saudis from AlUla are being equipped with technical and operational expertise to manage modern transport systems. This effort ensures that the Kingdom’s sustainable infrastructure is maintained and operated by skilled local professionals.

RCU’s participation at the exhibition reaffirms its leadership in integrating innovation, sustainability, and heritage preservation. By investing in clean technologies and local human development, AlUla continues to evolve as a global model for sustainable tourism—demonstrating how modern infrastructure can enhance visitor experiences while safeguarding cultural heritage.

Through visionary projects like the AlUla Tram, RCU is not only shaping the future of transport in Saudi Arabia but also setting new standards for sustainable destination development worldwide.
