Saudi Arabia's Diriyah Art Futures recognized one of the most beautiful museums

Diriyah Art Futures, Saudi Arabia’s pioneering institution for digital art and emerging technologies, has been named one of the world’s most beautiful museums by the prestigious Prix Versailles awards.

Located in the historic town of Diriyah near Riyadh, the museum was designed by Italian firm Schiattarella Associati and is the only winner from the Middle East among seven global honorees for 2025. Other notable recipients include Paris’s Grand Palais, the Kunstsilo in Norway, and Bali’s Saka Museum.

Diriyah Art Futures stands out for its innovative architecture, which seamlessly blends traditional Najdi design elements with modern aesthetics. Rather than a single structure, the museum unfolds as a series of sculptural pavilions interconnected by shaded walkways, inspired by the rhythm and layout of ancient desert communities. The complex includes exhibition galleries, research laboratories, a new media library, a bookstore, and an auditorium.

“Our aim was to design a space that felt as if it emerged from the earth,” the architects said. “By embracing natural values, we crafted a contemporary architectural language that is deeply rooted in the local context.”

The recognition marks a significant achievement for Saudi Arabia’s cultural sector. Established in 2015 with the support of UNESCO, the Prix Versailles highlights excellence in architecture that contributes to cultural, ecological, and social sustainability. In 2024, it named Zayed International Airport the most beautiful airport in the world.

Diriyah Art Futures’ inclusion signals a growing international appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s commitment to innovation in arts, design, and heritage.
