Saudi Arabia: NEOM launches Champions of Progress to boost regional football
NEOM, the official partner of the
Asian Football Confederation (AFC), has launched Champions of Progress,
a new initiative aimed at honoring individuals and projects making a positive
impact on community football across Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, and Asia.
Unveiled on Wednesday, the program
invites nominations for people aged 18 and above who are driving meaningful
change through football. The goal is to celebrate grassroots efforts that
enhance participation, accessibility, and inclusion, while also aligning with
NEOM’s broader vision to position Saudi Arabia as a global hub for sport and
physical activity.
“Champions of Progress seeks
to recognize community leaders who promote engagement, innovation, and
inclusivity in football,” NEOM said in a statement. “It’s about using the power
of football to inspire progress from the grassroots to elite levels.”

Eligible entries include individuals
and initiatives that have significantly contributed to the development of
football, whether by increasing participation rates, removing barriers to
entry, or advancing local talent.
A judging panel comprising
representatives from NEOM and the AFC will select six standout entries. These
“champions” will be invited to the AFC Champions League Elite event at the
start of the 2025/26 season, where they will meet with senior figures in Saudi
football and be recognized for their achievements.
Their stories will be shared across
official NEOM and AFC channels to raise awareness and inspire further community
involvement in football throughout the region.
