Fortnite game brings to life Saudi Arabia's At-Turaif site
Diriyah’s UNESCO World Heritage
Site, At-Turaif, has been brought to life in the popular game Fortnite Creative
through a collaboration between VCCP Media, Livewire, and Beyond Creative. The
campaign, titled The Wonders of Diriyah, launched on September 20, 2024,
ahead of Saudi Arabia’s National Day celebrations, offering gamers a unique,
immersive experience.
At-Turaif, the birthplace of Saudi
Arabia, has been meticulously recreated within Fortnite as a 1:1 digital
replica, using advanced 3D scanning technology and Unreal Engine for Fortnite
(UEFN). The virtual environment captures the intricate details of traditional
Najdi mudbrick architecture, showcasing the cultural and historical
significance of the nearly 300-year-old site.

The project was developed following
a research study by Livewire involving 600 Saudi gamers, which found that 95%
expressed strong interest in Diriyah-themed experiences. The recreation
includes iconic landmarks such as Salwa Palace and the Imam Meshari bin Saud
Palace, alongside interactive elements like speed run challenges and historical
non-playable characters (NPCs) that enhance the educational aspect of the
experience.
Kiran Haslam, Chief Marketing
Officer at Diriyah Company, praised the collaboration, stating: “The innovative
recreation of At-Turaif offers players a unique way to experience our rich
history, connecting people worldwide through immersive storytelling.”
