Saudi Arabia launches Direct Umrah Program to enhance experience of pilgrims

The Ministry of Haj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia has introduced the Direct Umrah Program, a new initiative designed to elevate the experience of pilgrims. This program allows companies to serve pilgrims directly, ensuring high-quality services without the need for intermediaries.

The initiative is focused on enriching the spiritual journey by promoting visits to historical sites significant to the life of the Prophet and showcasing the Kingdom’s attractions. The program encourages service providers to implement professional destination management and trip organization, a necessary step as the number of pilgrims reached 13.5 million in 2023, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The announcement was made during the second gathering of Umrah organizations at the ministry’s headquarters in Makkah, presided over by Minister of Haj and Umrah Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah on August 20.

This meeting aligns with the ministry's strategy to enhance the Umrah experience, empower the private sector, streamline procedures, and enforce compliance standards. Discussions included addressing challenges, proposing solutions, and launching innovative services to ensure top-quality pilgrim experiences.

The Ministry of Haj and Umrah is committed to continually improving the Umrah service system, with the goal of increasing the number of pilgrims annually, in line with Saudi Vision 2030. Recently, Saudi Arabia announced plans to welcome 15 million Muslims for Umrah by 2025.

In July, the Presidency of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque unveiled the largest Umrah season plan in its history for the new Islamic year 1446 AH-2024. The new Umrah season began on July 7, coinciding with the start of the new Hijri year.
