Bouygues JV granted $1b contract for Saudi Arabia’s Qiddiya theme park

Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC), based in Saudi Arabia, has awarded a contract worth SR3.75 billion ($998.6 million) to a joint venture comprising Bouygues Batiment International (BBI), a pioneer in building and civil engineering projects, and Saudi Almabani General Contractors. This contract is for the construction of the Six Flags theme park, marking a significant milestone as the first of its kind in the region.

Qiddiya, poised to become the kingdom’s premier destination for entertainment, sports, and the arts, will offer a diverse array of experiences including sports, wellness, nature, environment, parks, attractions, motion, mobility, arts, and culture. Located on the outskirts of Riyadh, Qiddiya is a city in development that promises to revolutionize entertainment, sports, and arts experiences upon its opening.

The Six Flags Qiddiya theme park will be a central attraction within Qiddiya and the city of Riyadh. Covering an extensive area of 320,000 square meters, it will boast 28 rides and attractions, including 10 thrill rides and 18 designed for families and young children.

The contract signing ceremony, held at the Qiddiya Experience Centre, marked the official commencement of construction, attended by officials from both Bouygues Bâtiment International and Almabani General Contractors.

Abdullah Aldawood, Managing Director of QIC, expressed enthusiasm, stating, "With this signing, we are taking significant strides towards establishing the kingdom’s future entertainment, sports, and arts destination. Collaborating with leading construction firms like Bouygues Bâtiment International, we are eager to bring Six Flags Qiddiya to life, offering a world-class theme park with innovative ride concepts."

The Six Flags Qiddiya theme park will feature five signature rides, set to break ten world records, and will encompass six immersive lands, each offering unique experiences inspired by Arabic design motifs and the rich cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia.

QIC highlighted that all rides and attractions are designed exclusively for Qiddiya, promising guests an unparalleled and memorable experience that celebrates the region's cultural heritage.
