NEOM's amazing 2.8 km 'The Lake' takes shape at TROJENA ski destination
As NEOM steadily advances in the construction of its
distinctive ski destination, TROJENA, a magnificent 2.8-kilometer-long man-made
freshwater reservoir, known as 'The Lake,' is emerging at the heart of this
exciting destination, alongside the vertical village called 'The Vault.'
An Engineering Marvel:
The development of TROJENA, unveiled by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed
bin Salman in 2022, is a monumental undertaking. The transformation of this
mountain into one of the world's most environmentally sustainable ski resorts,
in alignment with NEOM's broader environmental objectives, is an engineering
marvel. It entails groundbreaking approaches to sustainable snow production,
snow melt techniques, and energy efficiency.

Excavation work for 'The Lake' began in early 2022, and the
developer has reutilized approximately 3 million cubic meters of material for
the lake liner and dams, marking substantial progress as of October 2023.
Philip Gullett, Executive Director - Region Head, TROJENA,
emphasizes the enormity of delivering a project like TROJENA. NEOM stands as
one of the world's most extensive projects of its kind, and its commitment to
technological advancement and sustainability attracts global leaders in
construction and design. These experts collaborate at the forefront of
sustainable development, employing innovative techniques and skills.
Cutting-Edge
Coordination: The development and construction of NEOM necessitate
meticulous coordination among world-renowned architects, engineers,
contractors, and various subject matter experts. The team leverages advanced
technologies such as digital twins, artificial intelligence, robotics, and modular
construction techniques.

Sustainability at the
Core: In line with NEOM's sustainability commitment, water and power are
produced sustainably. All wastewater generated is treated and reused to support
the lake and the surrounding landscaping. NEOM's first wastewater treatment and
water recycling plant is already operational, providing water for construction
and environmental initiatives. Additionally, the use of recycled excavated
materials in construction reduces the demand for virgin materials.
Man-Made Snow:
TROJENA aims to offer a diverse skiing experience throughout the year. NEOM
will produce man-made snow to cater to its 36 kilometers of ski slopes and is
currently conducting regular tests on artificial snow to complement natural
snowfall in winter. During other months, skiing enthusiasts will have the
opportunity to ski on synthetic surfaces.
The development of 'The Lake' at TROJENA exemplifies NEOM's
unwavering commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the creation of a
unique, environmentally friendly ski destination.
