KT, formerly Korea Telecom, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) and STC Group, the parent company of Saudi Telecom, to embark on a 50-year digital transformation initiative in Saudi Arabia.

This groundbreaking project, announced at the recent Korea-Saudi 50th Anniversary Construction Cooperation Event, aims to catalyze the digital transformation of the kingdom in alignment with "Saudi Vision 2030."

The collaboration will leverage KT's digital transformation capabilities, Hyundai E&C's proficiency in smart construction, and STC Group's robust networking infrastructure.

The initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, a comprehensive reform plan aimed at diversifying the country's oil-centric economy, with a strategic emphasis on smart infrastructure and digital transformation.

KT is an active participant in One Team Korea, a collaborative entity formed under the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. Comprising governmental bodies and private enterprises, including Hyundai E&C, it fosters cooperation to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes for Korea and Saudi Arabia.

KT's CEO, Kim Young Shub, expresses eagerness to serve as Saudi Arabia's digital innovation partner, leveraging their extensive business experience and ICT solutions acumen.

Prior to the MoU signing, KT engaged with high-ranking officials, including the Governor H.E Communications and Space Technology Committee and representatives from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MCIT). Discussions focused on future collaboration in areas such as data centers, autonomous driving, and research and development.

The collaboration follows a series of recent initiatives in Saudi Arabia's digital landscape, including Huawei's cloud region launch in Riyadh and partnerships for data center developments with companies such as Saudi Call, LMT, and CMI.

As Saudi Arabia strides into a new era of digital innovation, this collaborative effort aims to be a cornerstone in achieving the ambitious goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030. Stay tuned for updates as the project unfolds.
