Saudi Arabia at forefront of building tomorrow’s civilization through NEOM: Crown Prince
Saudi Crown Prince and
Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman has highlighted Saudi Arabia's aspiration to
create a new civilization that would inspire other nations to pursue similar
initiatives for the betterment of the planet.
In a documentary aired
on the Discovery Channel, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, emphasized that Saudi
Arabia is at the forefront of pioneering innovative city construction and
sustainable living.
The prince also veiled
the remarkable features of 'THE LINE,' an unprecedented project within NEOM.
This futuristic city, without roads, cars, and emissions, represents the
largest infrastructure endeavor in history, promising a revolution in urban
lifestyle.
Acknowledging the
immense potential of Saudi Arabia, the Crown Prince stated, "We recognize
the unique opportunities at our disposal. We possess the financial resources,
vast land, stability, excellent infrastructure, and hold the distinction of being
a G20 country."
Explaining the
motivation behind this distinctive city, Prince Mohammed highlighted the
projected doubling of Saudi Arabia's population from 33 million to
approximately 50-55 million by 2030. He stressed the need to address the
ensuing demands that would strain the existing infrastructure of the Kingdom.
"This poses a crucial question, necessitating the creation of a new
city," he stated.
Describing the
conception of 'THE LINE,' Prince Mohammed recounted the process of
collaboration and ideation. He expressed his awe at the grandeur of the
concept, stating that words alone cannot capture its magnitude.
Emphasizing the
project's profitability due to substantial demand, he shared insights into the
brainstorming sessions, team collaborations, and the global competition held to
select the best designers. He noted that most proposals aligned with existing
models but presented improved solutions. However, one designer suggested
transforming the conventional circular shape into a straight line, a concept
that was ultimately embraced.
Prince Mohammed
highlighted that construction of the city is already underway, with the
completion of the initial phase planned to align with Vision 2030. Encompassing
a length of 170 km, the city will be built for the future. He highlighted the
unexplored and diverse nature of the northwestern region of Saudi Arabia,
encompassing mountains, valleys, oases, dunes, beaches, islands, corals, and
offering opportunities for skiing and diving.
Addressing the
artistic aspects of the city, the Crown Prince emphasized the significance of
incorporating art into the entire cityscape, recognizing that engineers and
designers alone are insufficient. He emphasized Saudi Arabia's commitment to
creating a city that is itself a work of art. Regarding leisure activities for
those involved in the project's implementation, he cited examples of cultural
and sporting events in NEOM that provide entertainment and relaxation.
In response to
skepticism surrounding Saudi Arabia's ability to complete such ambitious
projects, the Crown Prince brushed aside the doubts, stating, "Let them
voice their opinions while we continue to prove them wrong."
