Saudi Arabia’s Neom football club beats Al-Hilal 2-0
Al-Hilal’s
remarkable 47-match unbeaten run in the Saudi Pro League came to an end on
Monday as Neom
secured a 2-0 victory away from home.
The defeat was Al-Hilal’s first
league loss under head coach Simone Inzaghi, who took charge after leaving
Inter Milan in June 2025. It also brought an end to the club’s perfect start to
the current campaign, with Al-Hilal having won each of their opening five
league matches.
Inzaghi fielded all three of the
club’s high-profile attacking signings from Premier League teams. Brazil
international Gabriel Martinelli made his first start since completing his move
from Arsenal, while former Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins also featured
after arriving four days earlier. Crysencio Summerville joined the Saudi giants
from West Ham in July.

Despite their considerable attacking
firepower, Al-Hilal struggled to create clear chances and failed to record a
single shot on target for the first time this season.
Neom took the lead in the 15th
minute when former Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly turned the ball into his
own net. The visitors doubled their advantage shortly before half-time through
Ivory Coast midfielder Amadou Kone.
The result represents a significant
setback for Al-Hilal, who had established themselves as one of the dominant
sides in the Saudi Pro League during their lengthy unbeaten streak.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo’s
Al-Nassr have an opportunity to draw level with league leaders Al-Hilal on
points when they face Abha on Thursday.
