Saudi Arabia's Diriyah exhibition represents artists from 12 countries
The "Continuum" exhibition opened this week in
Diriyah, showcasing new works from 17
emerging international artists following a year-long fellowship under the Diriyah Art
Futures initiative.
Running through November 7, the exhibition features artists representing 12 countries who developed their projects under the mentorship of digital media creators Louis-Philippe Demers and Rick Treweek. Memory as a Living Process: Investigates personal,
environmental, and cultural remembrance. Yemeni artist Ezzat Shdad presents Does the Sea Die?, a
spatial film installation set in Aden that explores grief, urban decay, and
collective memory.

Systems of Power and Optimization: Examines technology
as a vehicle for human governance and control. Saudi artist Njood Albawardi’s
installation, This is All a
Big Test, analyzes the human choices behind automated design and microchip
architecture.

The Body, Perception, and Presence: Focuses on sensory
environments and spatial stability. Evgenii Popov’s sculptural installation Being Beside utilizes four
shifting vanishing points to alter viewer perspective, while Mexican artist
Gabriela Reyes (Cero Tres) presents Avoid Nil, an audiovisual piece exploring perception
and absence.

Repetition, Rhythm, and Collective Experience:
Addresses human endurance, automation, and synthetic creativity. UK
collaborative duo Y7 (Hannah Cobb and Declan Colquitt) showcase The Lazarus Mechanism: How
Your Cells Cheat Death, an AI-generated video essay probing algorithmic
authorship and aesthetic intent.
Organized as part of Diriyah's ongoing cultural programming, the exhibition highlights creative intersections between emerging technology, digital media, and contemporary visual arts.
