Number of Saudi women workers in hospitality industry constantly rising
Saudi Arabia is emerging as a global
leader in tourism development, with women now representing nearly 50 percent of
the Kingdom’s tourism workforce, Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb announced
at the 25th World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit held in Rome
from September 28 to 30.
Al-Khateeb highlighted that the
Kingdom’s progress demonstrates the success of its Vision 2030 goals, which
emphasize empowering women, investing in training, and building a sustainable
tourism economy. “Saudi Arabia has created hundreds of thousands of training
opportunities and increased women’s participation in tourism to nearly 50
percent — a model now recognized globally,” he said.

During the summit, attended by
tourism leaders and policymakers from over 70 countries, Al-Khateeb launched
the “Future of Work in Travel and Tourism” report in partnership with the WTTC.
The study projects that by 2035, one-third of all new global jobs will emerge
from the travel and tourism industry, underscoring its role as a major engine
of economic growth. It also warns of a potential global labor shortage
exceeding 43 million workers in major economies, with a growing demand for AI,
digital, and sustainability-related skills.
Saudi Arabia’s own approach to
workforce development — including over 946,000 training opportunities since
2020 and the establishment of national professional standards — has made it a
model for other nations. These initiatives have also helped the Kingdom surpass
100 million domestic and international visitors for the second consecutive year
in 2024.

Al-Khateeb also invited global
tourism leaders to Riyadh for two major upcoming events: the 26th UN Tourism
General Assembly (Nov. 7–11) and the Touraize Forum (Nov. 11–13) — the first
event of its kind focused on advancing human capital, sustainable investment,
and smart tourism technology.
The minister affirmed that Saudi
Arabia’s transformation of its tourism sector reflects its ambition to become
one of the world’s top destinations, powered by innovation, inclusivity, and
strategic global partnerships.
