Saudi Arabia is integrating culture into giga projects

Saudi Arabia’s giga projects highlight culture and heritage as central to global ambitions

Riyadh hosted the Cultural Investment Conference this week at the King Fahd Cultural Center, where a special session titled “Saudi Giga Projects: Showcasing Culture to the World” spotlighted how the Kingdom’s landmark developments are redefining the role of culture in economic growth. Speakers included Michael Dyke, CEO of New Murabba, and Rayan Fayez, Deputy CEO of NEOM, alongside cultural and development experts.

Fayez emphasized that  is not merely a real estate initiative but an integrated ecosystem built around 15 vital economic sectors—with culture and heritage at its core. He underscored that cultural investment is essential to attracting global talent, driving innovation, and improving quality of life. NEOM has already rolled out cultural initiatives such as an Artists in Residence (AIR) program, a cultural leadership program, and hosting major international film productions to establish itself as a global hub for creativity and exchange.

Dyke highlighted New Murabba as another cultural flagship. Inspired by Riyadh’s historic Murabba Palace, the project blends tradition with modernity through urban spaces, green areas, and world-class cultural and educational facilities. Its centerpiece, the Mukaab (cube), set to become the world’s largest building, will offer immersive experiences powered by AI and holographic technologies—marking it as a future global landmark.

The conference reinforced the role of culture in Saudi Vision 2030, positioning it as both a driver of sustainable development and a bridge for international exchange. Discussions also linked Saudi Arabia’s archaeological heritage, including Nabataean trade routes and the ancient civilization of Masyoon in NEOM, to future-oriented cultural projects, illustrating how heritage can fuel both national pride and foreign investment.
