Qiddiya expresses commitment to environmental sustainability through tree preservation

Qiddiya Investment Company is launching an extensive tree preservation and relocation initiative as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and adherence to international standards. This program is designed to improve urban life quality, reduce pollution, and protect natural ecosystems, aligning with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 by integrating development with nature.

A major focus of the initiative is the preservation of native tree species, such as Acacia tortilis, which is vital for local wildlife and biodiversity. The company’s "nature first" policy, embedded in Qiddiya’s master plan, places a strong emphasis on maintaining natural beauty and creating accessible green spaces. Qiddiya is also committed to following the 2021 Environment Act, collaborating with national entities like the National Center for Environmental Compliance and the National Center for Wildlife.

The tree preservation efforts include thorough field surveys to assess the health of trees, with a priority placed on keeping them in their original locations. When relocation is necessary, the trees are carefully moved either to other areas within Qiddiya or to a designated holding facility where they are nurtured until they can be replanted as part of landscaping plans.

Currently, approximately 3,000 native trees are being housed in a nursery, where they are monitored to ensure they remain healthy and ready for replanting. This initiative is crucial for supporting biodiversity, stabilizing soil, and providing protection against sandstorms. Additionally, Qiddiya is collaborating with the Green Riyadh project to bolster environmental initiatives across the capital.

In 2025, Qiddiya plans to further expand its tree relocation program and assess replanting success rates by 2026. As part of this commitment, the company will open certain sites to the public for educational activities, aiming to set a benchmark for sustainable development in Saudi Arabia.
