Immersive nighttime experience in mountains of Alula wins award
Hegra After Dark, an immersive nighttime
experience set amidst the ancient Nabataean tombs of Hegra, has been awarded
Best Arts and Culture Event at the 2025 Middle East Event Awards. The unique
event transforms the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hegra into a living stage,
blending incense trails, site-specific performances, and captivating guided
storytelling.
Launched in 2021, Hegra After Dark offers guests
horse-drawn carriage rides, a theatrical marketplace, and immersive walkable
paths that wind through monumental tombs carved into sandstone cliffs. The
upcoming edition will run from November 26, 2025, to February 14, 2026,
coinciding with the return of the Ancient Kingdoms Festival.

understanding
Hegra, Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World
Heritage Site, served as a key stop along the Incense Road during the Nabataean
era and later became a Roman outpost. The site joins other ancient locations in
AlUla, including Dadan, Jabal Ikmah, and AlUla Old Town, each rich with
inscriptions, ruins, and layers of civilizational history.
Produced
in partnership with ImaginExperience, Hegra After Dark is part of a growing
slate of programs that aim to immerse visitors in AlUla’s cultural heritage
through performance and place.
