Alula's NUMAJ hotel to open its doors for guests in 2027
AlUla Development Company (UDC), a subsidiary of
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), has unveiled new details about NUMAJ, a luxury Autograph
Collection Hotel by Marriott set to open in 2027. The 250-room property will
merge cultural heritage, cutting-edge design, and sustainable development,
aiming for LEED Gold certification.
A Tribute to AlUla’s Celestial Legacy
The hotel’s name, NUMAJ, draws inspiration from the star Nu Ursae Majoris,
historically used as a celestial guide by travelers navigating the AlUla
region. Rooted in the Arabic term “Al Kafzah al Ula” (“the first leap”), the
concept reflects a spirit of discovery and transformation—echoing the immersive
experience the hotel intends to offer.
The announcement was made during the Arabian
Travel Market 2025 in Dubai, where UDC CEO Fabien Toscano spotlighted NUMAJ as
a cornerstone of AlUla’s luxury hospitality vision.

A Design That Honors Place and Planet
Designed by GioForma, the creative force behind
the iconic Maraya Concert Hall, NUMAJ will blend traditional AlUla elements
with modern elegance. Locally sourced stone, hand-carved mashrabiyah screens,
and a grid-based structure designed to manipulate light and shadow will define
the hotel’s aesthetic. The architecture emphasizes indoor-outdoor harmony,
echoing the textures and tones of AlUla’s desert landscape.
Sustainability at Its Core
Environmental responsibility is a defining
feature of NUMAJ. In pursuit of LEED Gold certification, the hotel will
include:
- Greywater recycling systems
- UV-resistant glazing to reduce solar heat
gain
- Water-efficient native landscaping
- Regionally sourced construction materials
- A lighting strategy that aligns with AlUla’s
Dark Sky preservation goals
Premium Hospitality Experience
NUMAJ will cater to upscale travelers, including
families, couples, and business guests. Amenities will include:
- Five diverse dining venues, including a
signature restaurant
- Full-service spa and gym
- Two swimming pools
- High-end retail outlets
- Conference and business facilities

One
of the hotel’s signature features will be a curated rock collection in the main
lobby, showcasing AlUla’s extraordinary geological diversity and offering
guests a unique connection to the land from the moment they arrive.
Supporting Vision 2030
Toscano emphasized that NUMAJ represents more
than luxury—it’s a commitment to creating spaces that are both enriching and
environmentally responsible. “This hotel is a celebration of AlUla’s spirit.
We’re offering a destination that’s deeply authentic, sustainably built, and
beautifully designed,” he said.
The project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision
2030 and PIF’s strategy to drive sustainable economic growth through tourism
and culture.
