Saudi Arabia: 1,000-foot-high stadium in NEOM to be the first of its kind
Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2034 World Cup includes plans to make NEOM
one of its 15 host cities, according to the official bid submitted to FIFA.
Renderings revealed a new 46,000-seat stadium elevated 350 meters (1,150
feet) above the ground, integrated into the superstructure of the planned The
Line megacity. These renderings, along with details of 11 other newly proposed
constructions, are part of the country's bid marketing booklet. The 125-page
document outlines an extensive infrastructure plan and a network of 73 proposed
sports training facilities.

An architect for The Line stadium has not yet been named. A section drawing
from the bid book (page 108) shows the stadium occupying the top levels of the
superstructure, surrounded by various 'compounds' that complete the building
program. The interior bowl of the stadium will feature hexagonal partitions,
and a mirrored ceiling with LED displays will extend from the city to partially
cover the playing surface.
Construction of the stadium is set to begin in 2027 and be completed by
2032. The Line recently revised its original dimensions from 170 kilometers
(105 miles) to 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles) for the first phase, expected to be
finished by 2030. The bid also includes the refurbishment of four other
stadiums and the construction of a 45,000-seat stadium by Populous in Qiddiya
City.
