NEOM McLaren's GEN3 race car sets Guinness World Record

NEOM McLaren's GEN3 race car has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a Guinness World Record for the fastest speed ever attained by a vehicle indoors. This thrilling accomplishment was made possible through innovative modifications to the GEN3 race car.

NEOM, in partnership with McLaren Racing, announced their collaboration in 2022, forming the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team and NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team racing teams. This historic partnership united two all-electric race series, creating the 'NEOM McLaren Electric Racing' banner. The CEO of McLaren, Zack Brown, expressed excitement about this venture and the potential for talent development and clean industry advancement.

The record-breaking run was skillfully executed by Formula E driver Jake Hughes, a member of the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team. Behind the wheel of the GENBETA car, Hughes achieved a jaw-dropping top speed of 135.9 mph inside a London building. The GEN3, introduced in the current Formula E season, is already known for its exceptional electric racing capabilities, boasting a top speed of over 200 mph. However, the GENBETA project further optimized the vehicle's battery power output, tire specifications, and aerodynamic features, propelling it to new heights.

During an electrifying contest on a straight racetrack spanning 346 meters (1135.17 feet), Hughes engaged in a thrilling duel with fellow racer Lucas di Grassi to secure the coveted Guinness World Record title. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 102.65 mph, held by the Porsche Taycan since February 2021.

Formula E stands out as the world's first fully electric racing series, revolutionizing single-seater racing with emission-free racing on iconic street circuits across the globe. Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championships involved 11 teams and 22 drivers competing in 16 races. The new Gen3 car, faster, lighter, and more sustainable than its predecessors, enabled Formula E cars to reach speeds exceeding 200 mph.

Jake Hughes, overwhelmed by the record-breaking success, expressed his disbelief at having the opportunity to attempt such a feat in a Formula E car. Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds congratulated Hughes on this achievement, emphasizing the incredible potential of electric vehicles (EVs). The accomplishment highlights the advancement of electric racing and the significant role EVs can play in the future of the automotive industry.
