Penn State University and Neom’s ENOWA
to work on sustainable water solutions
Penn State
University, the leading US institution of higher education, has signed an
agreement with Neom’s ENOWA company to support efforts in sustainable water
solutions.
Through this collaboration
up to $6 million will be invested into finding solutions for zero wastage of
water.
Under the
agreement, 15 projects will be funded and initial five will work on desalinating
water, recovering rare earth minerals and metals from water and brine and
minimizing water line strain and water loss.
The research work
will be carried out at Penn State and later testing will be done in the ENOWA
Water Innovation Center.
According to Lora
Weiss, senior vice president for research at Penn State, the researchers at
Penn State will be able to make important contributions to the water needs of
society.
She said the innovations
and solutions from this work will have have far-reaching and impacts on the
world’s water needs.
Executive
Director of Water at ENOWA, Gavin Van Tonder has called this another key
milestone in its quest for investment and development of renewable utilities
infrastructure.
Launched in March 2022, ENOWA is the
energy and water company for NEOM. The organization benefits from NEOM's
greenfield site and strategic location in the northwestern part of Saudi
Arabia, which is abundant in solar and wind resources.
